Old Town & The Fortress: An Unhurried Walking Guide to Prizren

A field note from Enjoy Kosovo

A local perspective on Kosovo

Prizren is a city best explored on foot. Leave your watch behind, cross the 16th-century Stone Bridge, and let the cobblestone alleyways lead the way.

Starting along the Lumbardhi

Begin your morning where the city gathers: along the banks of the Lumbardhi river. In the Shadërvan square, sound echoes between water fountain spouts and terrace conversations.

Climbing the Fortress for Sunset

The 15-minute uphill stroll through the historic Marash quarter leads to the ancient Kalaja (Fortress). Timing your climb for dusk rewards you with golden light washing over minarets, church spires, and red tile roofs.

Local Etiquette & Riverside Evenings

As twilight falls, join locals in the traditional evening promenade (xhiro). Grab a seat by the water, order a cold Peja beer or a fresh Turkish tea, and watch the town glow.
